2010 Alumni Program & Reception

Service Opportunities in the Public Interest Law Community: Board Service, Pro Bono Work and Other Volunteer Roles

PILI held a program and reception for Alumni on Thursday, April 8th, hosted by Kirkland & Ellis LLP. The one hour program will focused on providing information to alumni about pro bono, board service and other volunteer opportunities within the public interest law community. Following the program, there was an informal networking reception for Alumni. At this program, we provided the latest listings of board service and pro bono opportunities available within Chicago’s public interest law community.  This program was recorded and a video will be available shortly.

The next Alumni Program & Networking Reception will be held in 2011.  Check back here later this year for details.

2009 Alumni Program & Reception Events

The final alumni program and reception of 2009 was held on Wednesday, November 18th and hosted by Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP. As with past programs, the first hour was devoted to a topical discussion. The theme of the topical discussion was “Lawyer to Leader: Volunteer Management Skills for the Public Interest Law Attorney,” with topics including how to run an effective meeting, managing a committee or board, working with staff, and motivating other volunteers. The topical discussion was followed by a casual networking reception for former PILI Interns and Fellows.

The second alumni program and reception of 2009 was hosted by Jenner & Block on Thursday, July 23rd. This event featured a panel discussion entitled, "The Current Economy’s Impact on the Public Interest Law Landscape" and will be followed by a reception.  In addition to PILI's Alumni, supervisors from PILI's Participating Agencies were also invited to attend.

The first alumni program and reception of 2009 was hosted by Howrey LLP on Tuesday, April 28th. A panel of PILI alumni described their path to their career in public interest law. The program was entitled, "The Path to a Career in the Public Interest Law Sector."
